Analyzing how Chat GPT influenced my work

In order to see how Chat GPT operates, i have chosen my article "What Is Wrong With Gaming" and put it through Chat GPT to see the changes that it makes. This is purely for research purposes and i do not claim any credit if it so happens that it took credit for someone else's work.

The Key Issues with Modern Gaming: Challenges Facing the Industry

Gaming has evolved from a niche pastime into one of the most influential and lucrative entertainment industries in the world. With cutting-edge technology, expansive online communities, and immersive gameplay, it rivals the film and music sectors in both cultural and economic impact. However, alongside this growth come significant challenges that threaten the integrity and accessibility of gaming. From microtransactions to toxicity in online spaces, modern gaming is grappling with its own growing pains.

1. Microtransactions and Loot Boxes: The Rise of ‘Pay-to-Win’

Microtransactions have become a major revenue stream for developers, allowing players to purchase in-game content such as skins, weapons, or boosts using real money. While cosmetic items that don’t affect gameplay are widely accepted, the emergence of loot boxes and pay-to-win models has drawn criticism from both players and regulators.

Loot boxes, which offer randomized rewards for a price, encourage repeat purchases in hopes of receiving valuable or rare items. This system has been compared to gambling, particularly when rewards impact gameplay in competitive environments.

The Problem:
Pay-to-win models allow players to bypass skill and effort by spending money, creating an uneven playing field and undermining the spirit of fair competition.

The Effect on Gamers:
This model alienates players who either can’t or don’t want to spend extra money, diminishing the enjoyment and inclusivity of the game.

The Response:
In response to public backlash and legal scrutiny, some countries have classified loot boxes as gambling. Developers are now shifting toward more ethical monetization models that don’t interfere with core gameplay.

2. Toxicity and Harassment in Online Communities

Online multiplayer games thrive on player interaction, but anonymity often fuels toxic behavior—ranging from trolling and harassment to racism, sexism, and homophobia. Games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Overwatch have been repeatedly cited for having hostile player environments.

The Problem:
The shield of anonymity can embolden players to behave in abusive or inappropriate ways, harming the social experience and driving away new or marginalized players.

The Effect on the Gaming Experience:
Toxicity disproportionately affects women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and players of color, leading to mental fatigue, stress, and in some cases, a complete withdrawal from online gaming.

The Response:
Developers are now implementing reporting tools, chat filters, and disciplinary systems to address harmful behavior. While some progress has been made, many argue that deeper cultural shifts and stronger enforcement are necessary.

3. The High Cost of Gaming: AAA Titles and Hardware

As games grow more complex and visually stunning, development costs have skyrocketed. These expenses are passed down to players through higher game prices, expensive consoles, and microtransactions.

The Problem:
Gaming is becoming less accessible due to the high cost of AAA titles and next-gen consoles. Add-ons like DLC and season passes often lock essential content behind additional fees.

The Effect on Gamers:
Players may be forced to choose between just a few games or miss out on major releases altogether. The paywall around post-launch content further fuels frustration, especially when it feels like content is being withheld from the base game.

The Response:
Subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, and EA Play offer cost-effective alternatives by giving access to libraries of games for a monthly fee. Indie games have also become more popular, providing fresh experiences at lower prices.

Conclusion: Shaping the Future of Gaming

Despite its challenges, the gaming industry is adapting and evolving. Developers, players, and communities are pushing for improvements in monetization practices, online behavior, and accessibility. While the solutions aren’t simple, open dialogue and collective action can help create a more inclusive and enjoyable gaming ecosystem.

By acknowledging and addressing these issues, we can ensure that the future of gaming remains as vibrant, diverse, and engaging as the worlds we love to play in.

Evaluation of Chat GPT's work:

The main thing that Chat GPT did when evaluating my work was more formatting and language based. There is a clear difference between the original article that i wrote and the revised article influenced by Chat GPT. It looks cleaner and more organized. It also looks like it revised some of my word choices and used bigger more advanced terminology. In terms of content though, i don't really see a difference. So that leads me to conclude that Chat GPT is good at organizing and revising your work, but it is not so good at adding or writing content.
