The Three Games That Made Me Question My Sanity (And Why I Loved Every Second)

The Three Games That Made Me Question My Sanity (And Why I Loved Every Second)

You know that feeling when you're ten tries deep into a boss fight, your palms are sweaty, your eye's twitching, and you start wondering if you’re the problem? Yeah, I’ve been there—multiple times. There are games that challenge you, and then there are games that grab you by the soul and demand a piece of your sanity. For me, the holy trinity of madness is Elden Ring, Hollow Knight, and Cuphead.

Let’s start with Elden Ring. It lures you in with its breathtaking landscapes, deep lore, and massive open world. But then BAM—you're getting obliterated by some eldritch horror on horseback that came out of nowhere. Every enemy feels like a mini-boss. Every boss feels like the game asking, “Are you sure you want to continue?” I died over 200 times and still came back for more. It's masochism, but make it beautiful.

Then there's Hollow Knight, the deceptively cute 2D platformer that hides a soul-crushing difficulty curve behind its adorable bug characters. The map is a labyrinth of pain. The combat is tight and punishing. And don’t even get me started on the White Palace—if you know, you know. I’ve screamed at my screen, questioned every decision that brought me to this moment, and still, I consider it one of the best games I’ve ever played.

And finally, Cuphead. Ah yes, the game that looks like a 1930s cartoon and plays like a bullet-hell fever dream. The art is charming, the soundtrack is jazzy, and the bosses? They’re relentless, unforgiving, and weirdly adorable. Every level is a test of reflexes and memory. It’s like being punched in the face by a smiling cartoon teapot—and you thank it for the experience.

These games broke me... but also built me back up. Stronger. Slightly crazier. But definitely more patient. Kind of.
