The Best Board Games Of All Time

If you're a fan of board games or looking to dive into the hobby, you’re in luck! I recently came across an amazing guide from The New York Times that highlights the best board games of all time, from casual gamers to hardcore strategists. You can check out the full list here: New York Times

What I love about this article is that it doesn’t just focus on the usual classics like Monopoly or Catan. Instead, it introduces some fantastic hidden gems that suit different play styles. Here are a few of my favorite picks from their list:

  • For Party Lovers: Mysterium - Part Clue and part Dixit, Mysterium turns players into psychics who must work together to solve a murder case based on ambiguous, beautifully illustrated “vision” cards (which are open to interpretation).
  • For Strategy Fans: Star Wars: Outer Rim -  Set in the original trilogy era of Star Wars, Outer Rim lets you play as a smuggler, a scoundrel, or a bounty hunter—or all three—as you travel between various wretched hives of scum and villainy in search of Fame.
  • For Quick & Light Fun: Wavelength - The best communication games (Codenames and Dixit, our picks for beginners, among them) play with how we convey ideas and concepts to others. Wavelength works similarly, but where Dixit and Codenames focus on communicating ideas by association, Wavelength asks players to communicate via opinions.

One game that I'll specifically talk about is Betrayal at the house on the hill (specifically the 3rd edition), it's a stunning horror/adventure game about trying to survive a haunted house but there are tons of different outcomes that can happen so the game always feels fresh.

If you’re looking to expand your board game collection or find the perfect game for game night, I highly recommend checking out the full article. Do you have a favorite board game that wasn’t mentioned? Let me know in the comments!
